kutri . . . Kutri-the-Finn . . . was actually christened "Irja Liisa" . . . but along the way acquired the name "Kutri." The story goes: My good friend Leena had somehow adopted the nickname "Klenkka" from
Johnny Hart's cartoon B.C. (the Finnish version, of course). Klenkka
(Wiley) is the unkempt brute with a wooden leg who is afraid of water,
women, and woodpeckers. Now, we were pals and had to have our own secret
language and signals and names, so she dubbed me "Kutri" after another
character in the cartoon. (Kutri is Curls, the suave, wavy-haired
gentle?man whom Mr. Hart describes as "a master of sarcastic wit.")
For some reason, the name has stuck . . .
