Frequently Asked Questions

What does a new "issuing bank" mean?
An issuing bank is a financial institution that issues your Visa Prepaid card and keeps your funds safe and secure. All funds deposited into your Card Account are kept at the issuing bank, and are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).

Why do I need to set up a new Card Account and how do I do it?
You need to open a new Card Account because we are changing our issuing bank partner. We chose a new issuing bank to better support our growth and so that we can offer you new products and features. Between September 1, 2013 and December 30, 2013, complete our easy-to-use online Wizard to open a new Card Account and transfer your balance – at no additional cost. Your existing Card, issued by Pacific Western Bank, cannot be loaded after November 18, 2013 and will be closed on December 31, 2013.

What is the Wizard and how does it work?
The Wizard is an online, step-by-step tool that enables you to open a new KAIKU Card account with our new issuing bank within a matter of minutes.

What will happen if I don’t complete the Wizard and open a new Card Account?
If you do not open a new Card Account and transfer your balance using the Wizard, your existing Card Account will be automatically closed on December 31, 2013. We recommend that you spend your balance down to $0 prior to December 31, 2013. Any remaining balance after that date must be requested as either a paper check (takes up to 90 days) or transfer to another U.S. bank account (takes up to 10 business days). Requests for account closure checks and bank transfers must be made in writing by submitting a form to Pacific Western Bank.

What happens to my direct deposits?
If you currently receive direct deposits from your employer or receive transfers from an account at another bank, you will need to update them with your new Card Account information. After completing the Wizard, you will be provided with updated direct deposit account and routing numbers. Use these for any future deposits so that your funds are received into the correct Card Account. For your convenience, a Direct Deposit form will also be provided for you to download to provide to your employer. Please allow at least 2 weeks for employers and payees to accept updated information. Deposits made into your existing account after November 18, 2013 will not be accepted.

What about my automatic payments?
If you currently make automatic payments (such as phone or utility bills) using your Card number on the front of your existing Card or your direct deposit account and routing numbers, you will need to update the payment information with each company. After you complete the Wizard, you will be provided with updated direct deposit account and routing numbers; or if you prefer to use your new Card number, you can do so once you receive it in the mail.

What new features will be available with the new KAIKU Card account?
KAIKU will now offer Mobile Money Deposit and Online Bill Pay! With Mobile Money Deposit, you can take a picture of any check with your iPhone® or Android™ smartphone and add funds to your Card. Funds are available immediately for a fee or within 5 business days at no charge. The Online Bill Pay feature allows you to pay your bills easily, by setting up either one-time or recurring payments. You can manage all your bills in one place and avoid the hassle of buying stamps. Adding money and paying bills has never been easier! For complete details and costs, please see terms and conditions.
